Azerbaijan

Nestled in the southern region of the Caucasus at the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Azerbaijan is an incredible blend of East and West with a long and fascinating history. Centuries of tradition merge into the ever-changing faces of the modern cities, with the capital city of Baku being a particular highlight.

Not only does Azerbaijan offer fantastic landscapes, but it also promises a very warm welcome and delicious food.

Azerbaijan: Off the beaten track

Despite being a landlocked country, Azerbaijan has over 400 small but beautiful lakes. 

Azerbaijan, also known as the Land of Fire, has the Burning Mountain (near Baku), where natural gas burns continuously at the surface. 

World Heritage Site

Historians have uncovered over 6,000 prehistoric rock carvings at Gobustan National Park. The carvings depict people, often in acts of trial and battle, and animals. They are thought to be between 5,000 and 20,000 years old. 

Gobustan State Historical and Cultural Reserve is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  

Archaeologists have found bones nearby that they believe belong to an ancient mammoth.
